How does environmental science address the issue of noise pollution and its impact on wildlife and natural soundscapes? Meteorologists of the Institute for Basic Sciences (I-CSIS) were tasked with studying the influence of noise pollution and its impacts on birds, mammals, and insect song, respectively, on the global climate change, and on the ecological consequences of air leaks for open-air power plant emissions. These efforts were funded by the Department of Energy’s Environmental Health and Safety Authority, which is tasked with conducting major air pollution assessments. These assessments, including EHAS-1, are aimed at understanding the potential environmental impacts of air pollution. In addition, I-CSIS should have, and we have, the opportunity to gather scientific information about the environmental impacts of air, carbon dioxide, and greenhouse gases, and which threats we should be aware of. In an effort to improve understanding of these air and air pollutants and to better promote effective regulation of air and air pollutants, I-CSIS is engaging multiple, broad platforms including (1) a number of large, independent researchers from diverse backgrounds, many of which meet to our center, at Côte d’Honfleur University; and (2) a consortium of public and private organizations. We hope this survey will contribute to the understanding of air and air pollutants, its management, and the development of public policy around air and air pollutants as a challenge for the environmental movement. 1. What is noise pollution and why is it from environmentalism? In June 2009, scientists from the I-CSIS were asked by a coalition of environmental groups to submit their answer to four papers entitled “What is Noise Pollution?,” a cover letter titled “Current state of Resilience in Planetary Science,” and a survey issued for the July 25th meeting of the I-CSIS Institutional Panel, an institutional decision-making body.
